PRX is seeking an experienced project manager to lead Project Catapult, an innovative podcast training program with public radio stations.

The Catapult Project Manager is experienced with leading media teams to successful outcomes. Extra points for being familiar with design thinking. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working with organizations and individuals at varying skill levels, in both in-person and remote encounters. The candidate also needs to be able to manage across organizations with experience in all aspects of program management including goal setting, budgeting, project reporting, and leadership.

With funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Project Catapult assists public radio stations in developing podcasts significant to their audience. PRX will select ten public radio stations (two cohorts of five) to participate in a 20-week training curriculum to develop new skills for individuals and teams. These skills will include digital content development, the identification and cultivation of diverse hosting and production talent, marketing, audience engagement and monetization. The trainings will be provided to the stations across departments to assist stations in creating sustainable, inter-departmental models.

This is a high-visibility national project within public media; the candidate needs to be able to lead at that level of expectation, to meet the demands of multiple constituents and to serve as an ambassador of the project at industry events. This position will report to PRX’s Director of Training.

PRX seeks someone who can:

Manage Complex Projects with Multiple Stakeholders

  • Develop and track project plans, timelines, activities, benchmarks and metrics aligned with overall goals and grant deliverables
  • Create and manage budgets
  • Ensure all deliverables are on-time, within scope and within budget
  • Manage all logistics related to the project
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Manage production and project/training workflow
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for flawless execution
  • Measure project performance and report to PRX managers
  • Manage all CPB grant reporting and communication
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Anticipate hurdles and problems and work with team members to address

Lead Diverse Teams

  • Create a collaborative and focused training environment with clear and achievable outcomes for each team of trainees
  • Develop a public and internal presence around Catapult; own the project and its objectives
  • Work with Director of Training to develop the project’s overall editorial sensibility
  • Work with Director of Training to keep skills development rooted in PRX’s approach to training
  • Work with PRX and leadership at participating stations to identify and develop fundraising, sponsorship and other revenue generating opportunities

Train Marketing & Communications Teams

  • Coordinate marketing and communications related to the project with PRX, stations and external public relations firm and track results
  • Lead and manage live events
  • Innovate ways to implement additional efficient, creative and impactful approaches and partnerships
  • Effectively represent Catapult in public, before public radio and talent gatherings and in small-group settings

The Catapult Project Manager is a full-time position grant-funded for two-years, with the possibility of continuation. This position is based in Boston and will require flexible hours to accommodate stations in other time zones.
